Official College Football Power Rankings Week 8

1.  Clemson (6-0)

Beat Syracuse 47-21

It's hard to say how this year's Tigers stack up to the other elite teams based on ACC play; even on an off day they look dominant against the level of in conference opposition.  Trevor Lawrence did throw the first pick 6 of his career.

2. Ohio St. (1-0)

Beat Nebraska 52-17

After losing half the 2019 team to the NFL draft, there were questions.  No need in Columbus.  They just lock and reload year after year.  Justin Fields was all but perfect.

3.  Alabama (5-0)

Beat Tennessee 48-17

Losing Jaylen Waddle was a killer.  The schedule is set up so they won''t miss him initially, but when they face the other big boys it might matter.

4. Notre Dame (5-0)

Beat Pitt 45-3

The Irish are the best team no one is talking about.  They've been dominant in all phases of the game, and Ian Book is every bit the playmaker that Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence are.  The November 7th date with Clemson could be the game of the year.

5. Georgia (3-1)

Off

Imagine if this team had a legit QB.  The D is good enough to sail through the rest of the schedule, but they'll run into the same problem if they run into 'Bama again

6. Oklahoma St. (4-0)

Beat Iowa State 24-21

The Cowboys have the best D in the Big 12.  Hell, they have the only D in the Big 12.  How far will that get them?  A conference title?   Possibly.  Will they see the BCS?  Doubtful.  Hard to imagine them being competitive against the powerhouse schools.

8.  Wisconsin (1-0)

Beat Illinois 45-7

It's just odd seeing the Badgers come out with a real aerial attack, but Freshman Graham Mertz came out and lit it up against the Illini.  It was hard to tell if Nebraska's D was as bad as it looked against Ohio State, but we will find out this week.

9. Texas A&M (3-1)

Off

The Aggies boast one of the nations's most balanced attacks, and have the chance to build up a head of steam with a schedule that should see them favored in the rest of their regular season games.

Next:

🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈

10. Florida (2-1)

Off

The Gators' biggest opponent thus far seems to be COVID-19; as a team they seem to have managed it as poorly as any team in the country.

Next:

🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈

11. Miami (5-1)

Beat Virginia 19-14

The 'Canes were far from impressive against Virginia, With upcoming dates with NC State and Va Tech they'll need to play far better or those wins will dry up quick.

Next:

Bye

🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈

12. North Carolina (4-1)

Beat NC State 48-21

When the 'Heels play to their potential, this is a top 10 team.  Weather they do or not is anyone's guess from week to week.

Next:

🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈

13. BYU (6-0)

Beat Texas St. 52-14

It's hard to tell if the Cougars are any good or not; they've basically played a string of bad teams.  If you're an old BYU fan you'll get this reference... they very much remind me of the 1984 team.  They'll smash everyone on their schedule, but no one will know how good they actually are.

14. Cincinnati (4-0)

Beat SMU 42-13

There's one every year' a non- Power 5 team that goes undefeated and doesn't even sniff the BCS.  That would be the Bearcats in 2020.

15.  Penn St. (0-1)

Lost to Indiana 36-35

Losing to Indiana... and the way they did... was devastating.  And with Ohio State coming to town, look for it to go from bad to worse.

Beat Penn St. 36-35

No one should have been surprised that the Hoosiers are legit in 2020; this team has been improving for several years.  They won 8 games in 2019.

Next:

🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈

18. Michigan (1-0)

Beat Minnesota 49-24

For the first time in years, the Wolverines come into a season looking like the Wolverines.  Are they good enough to hang with Ohio State yet?  Probably not.  But they might finally be closing the gap.

19. Kansas St. (4-1)

23. Marshall (5-0)

Beat FAU 20-9

Marshall hasn't been in the spotlight since a guy named Randy Moss suited up.  This D is among the best in the country.

🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈

24. Memphis (3-1)

Beat Temple 41-29

The Tigers can score with anyone; they do match up particularly well with Cincinnati.  Could be an incredible game.

Next:

25. SMU (5-1)

Lost to Cincinnati 42-13

After laying an egg against the Bearcats, it's doubtful the Mustangs will lose another regular season game.
