Official NFL Power Rankings Week 7

Star Wars Football Helmet Edition

Two things you wouldn't think would go together at all... football and Star Wars.  Yet someone made it work.  All of the helmet illustrations are reimagined with a Star Wars theme.  Take a few minutes and check them out; even if you're not enough of a nerd to get all of the references... some of them are pretty damn cool.  For those who are nerdy enough... the Star Wars team names are on there too.  As always... Thoughts?  Drop them below... we answer all of them.

1. Kansas City Chiefs (5-1)

Beat Buffalo 26-17

You could see a large elements of a "Let's go back to basics" approach for the chiefs; that's just simple good coaching.  And Edwards-Helaire... imagine if that becomes even a semi constant thing...

2. Tennessee Titans (5-0)

Beat Houston 42-36

First, the bad.  There were mistakes.  Turnovers.  Points left off the board by special teams.  The D looked tired at times, but after an emotional blowout of the Bills just a few days ago that's to be expected.  And in spite of all that... 600 yards and 40+.  Only one thing to say to that...

Last year, the Titans couldn't keep up with the Chiefs.  anyone still think that's the case?

4. Green Bay Packers (4-1)

Lost to Tampa Bay 38-10

So what did we learn from this week? It's hard to tell.  Sometimes a team just lays an egg, and that is what this looked like.  Any given Sunday.  But there are issues, especially on the defensive side.  But in the end, we saw what everyone has known all along; as A-Rod goes, so go the Packers.

5. Baltimore Ravens (5-1)

Beat Philadelphia 30-28

The Ravens were every bit as dominant as they were supposed to be against a bad eagles team... for about 54 minutes.  They closed when they needed to, but if you're a Ravens fan, you still have to be mildly concerned.

6. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-0)

Beat Cleveland 38-7

You have to wonder... are the Ravens still the big dog in the AFC North?  The Steelers took a few weeks to get their feet under them, but this may have been a notice to the rest of the AFC.

🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-2)

Beat Green Bay 38-10

It would appear that rumors of the Bucs' demise were greatly exaggerated.  That team we all thought we would see when Brady flew south and Tampa started signing up free agents?  They showed up today.

8. Buffalo Bills (4-2)

Lost to Kansas City 26-17

Two weeks ago the Bills were the anointed ones and Josh Allen was Joe Montana.  Now back to reality.  Good QB.  Solid team.  Not one of the big boys just yet.

10. Arizona Cardinals (4-2)

Beat Dallas 38-10

When the Cards find some consistency, they will be scary.  At their best, they match up will with almost any team in the league.  At their worst... they lose to Detroit.

11.  Chicago Bears (5-1)

Beat Carolina 23-16

If you're wondering how exactly the Bears are 5-1, there's a very simple one letter answer.

D

As in Defense.  The Bears D is as good as any in the league.  Which is a good thing, because the Offense is Pedestrian an best.   But pedestrian was all they needed this week.

12. Los Angeles Rams (4-2)

Lost to San Francisco 24-16

The Rams were just cruising along doing their thing, and then... this.  Welcome to 2020.  The NFC West is going to be exciting come December.

13. Cleveland Browns (4-2)

Lost to Pittsburgh 38-7

It's time for Browns fans to accept reality;  Baker is a bust.  Oh, he's got talent.  But now he's surrounded by talent; with a good QB, this team would be a legit contender.  But when it's crunch time... in big games... he just sucks.  This was his stage.  And look what he did with it.  It wasn't just that the Steelers D is very good... though they are... it's that he was very bad.

14.  Miami Dolphins (3-3)

Beat New York Jets 24-0

If you stop to look at the 'Phins season so far... close losses to Buffalo and Seattle, a ten point loss to the Pats... and 3 absolute *ss whoopins of the Jags, 'Niners, and now the Jets... it's possible this might be the best team no one is talking about.  People may need to start.  The Rams and Cardinals are on deck, and if they can split those two... there's a legit path to the playoffs here.

15.  Indianapolis Colts (4-2)

Beat Cincinnati 31-27

Rivers isn't what he once was, but he still manages to get the job done.  The Colts are starting to realize what they have in Jonathan Taylor, but man, it's taking a while.  There aren't many feed 'em 25 carries a game RBs left in the league, but this kid is one of them.  The more they let him do, the less Rivers has to.

17. New England Patriots (2-3)

Lost to Denver 18-12

When was the last time you remember a bad team winning at New England?  No mystery why.  Cam was terrible.  Twice on that last drive Belichick had wide receivers throwing the ball.  That tells you all you need to know.  The D didn't look bad, but that's only because the Broncos O was just as terrible.

18. San Francisco 49ers (3-3)

Beat L.A.Rams 24-16

I won't lie; I thought the 'Niners were dead in the water.  Like 6-10 dead in the water.  But this is 2020, and nothing is certain.  At 3-3, if what we saw is how this team comes out of the brutal last month, then San Fran is very much still a team to be reckoned with.

19. Carolina Panthers (3-3)

Lost to Chicago 23-16

Those dreams of the Panthers keeping pace while waiting for CMC to return evaporated quickly under the heat of the Bears D.

20.  Houston Texans (1-5)

Lost to Tennessee 42-36

Granted, the Titans D was tired.  But Deshaun Watson was simply outstanding.  You'll never know it based on their record, but this could end up being his best year.  If he survives.  (Figuratively, of course)

21.  Detroit Lions (2-3)

Beat Jacksonville 34-16

There are times when you wonder how exactly the Lions manage to suck so consistently.  Granted, it was the Jags.  But they absolutely dominated this game.  Sadly, we're sure to see the Lions we all know and pity back next week.

22.  Atlanta Falcons (1-5)

Beat Minnesota 40-23

Sometimes a team just needs a change at the top.  On paper, there was no reason in the world the Falcons should have been 0-5.  And the change obviously came at the right time; this was the team we all expected in 2020.

24.  Cincinnati Bengals (1-4-1)

Lost to Indianapolis 31-27

Joe Burrow was breathtakingly good, and reminded us all why he was the #1 overall pick in the draft... for about a quarter.  After that he looked every bit the rookie he is.  When he's on, though... the hype is real.

🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈

25. Philadelphia Eagles (1-4-1)

Lost to Baltimore 30-28

You have to take your hat off to Carson Wentz.   Just a couple of weeks ago, people were calling for his head.  But here he is, leading a genuinely bad Iggles team, and somehow keeping them competitive.

🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈

26. Dallas Cowboys (2-4)

Lost to Arizona 38-10

Every week I say the same thing here.  25 carries for Zeke.  Maybe more now that Dak is gone.  Simplest formula for victory in the NFL and they refuse to do it.  Why can I see the answer and they don't?  Because Mike McCarthy is garbage.

27.  New York Giants (1-5)

Beat Washington 20-19

Exactly the game you'd expect from two of the worst teams in the league.  But hey... when you're as bad as the Giants, you take 'em where you can get 'em.  One positive; Daniel Jones will, down the line, be a very good QB.  He was hands down the most exciting player on the field.

Next:

🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈

28. Denver Broncos (2-3)

Beat New England 18-12

Yeah, it's a win, and there won't be a lot of those for the Broncos this year.  But it was the ugliest win I've seen in a while.  It was impossible to tell how much of this was the Broncos D rising up and how much was just Cam sucking.

29. Minnesota Vikings (1-5)

Lost to Atlanta 40-23

It's a bit stunning to see how far the Viqueens have fallen... and how fast.  Even with a soft schedule the rest of the way, you have to wonder how far this downward spiral will go.

Next:

🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈

30. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-5)

Lost to Detroit 34-16

The Jags are just... really bad.  Minshew has moments every game where he reminds you they won't always be, but other than that... they're hard to watch.

🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈

31. Washington Nameless (1-5)

Lost to New York Giants 20-19

I'll keep saying it; benching Haskins was a mistake.  This team is garbage.  I don't care who's under center... If they win 3 games in 2020 I'll be stunned.

Next:

🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈

32. New York Jets (0-6)

Lost to Miami 24-0

It's gotten to the point where the New York (High School) Jets are almost comically bad.  Like to the point where they just look inept on the football field.  And the rest of the schedule is a gauntlet.    0-16, here we come.
